California Slender Salamander - Batrachoseps attenuatus - My first Slender Salamander, it was found in Northern California where they are ridiculously common. When it's wet, there seems to be at least one under every log and some logs have half a dozen or more. Depending on what references you read, there are somewhere around 20 species of Slender Salamander in California, some of which can only be differentiated by molecular analysis. I found two species (that I could positively identify) on my trip up the coast, yet oddly enough I have yet to see the one that occurs in San Diego where I reside.
